Automated Clean-up of PFAS with Minimized Blank Values
A well-known challenge in the analysis of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) is the high blank values and thus incorrect results. Coming from the material used in clean-up and measurement systems, since fluorine-containing plastics often built-in can release PFAS.
LCTech has developed a robotic system especially for PFAS applications by avoiding fluorine-containing plastics such as PTFE and is thus solving the challenge. No blank values from the system were measurable.

PFAS can be found in a variety of our everyday objects and materials. Among other things, they are used for grease and water-repellent surfaces in the textile and paper industry, but also for cleaning agents, lacquers, waxes and paints. PFAS find a very special area of application in fire-fighting foams due to their thermal stability.
They are released into the environment during the manufacturing process, but also during use or disposal. Therefore, PFAS can be detected worldwide in the environment, in wildlife or in human tissue and blood. Even in the polar regions the substances are already detected.
PFAS are anthropogenic and are characterised by extreme persistence. It is not yet entirely clear what effects PFAS have on the human body or what concentration must be achieved to reach any affect.
