NEW: Study showing advantages of photochemical derivatization with LCTech UVE

Dear Sir or Madam,

there is no better method for the detection of aflatoxins in food and feedstuff than the clean-up with immunoaffinity columns and HPLC–FLD with photochemical post column derivatization.

This is the result of a scientific study, which has been published recently. It compares several methods for this detection and cleary identifies the LCTech IAC column AflaCLEAN and the UV derivatization module UVE to be the best and working well according the EC guidelines.

This has also been proven by excellent results in a proficiency test. See some text extracts below!

It has outstanding advantages, especially over electrochemical derivatization:

  • No toxic reagents have to be handled
  • It is easy to use, the UVE is placed between HPLC and detector and switched on
  • It provides basis for automation, as there is no need to control the derivatization steps
  • It thus is less laborious and time-consuming
  • It shows better peak resolution
  • It ensures high sensitivity and reproducibility
  • The derivatives are more stable
  • It shows high day-to-day reproducibility
  • Clean-up with immunaffinity columns eliminates interfering matrix substances
  • It is cheaper

All the best,

This is the article mentioned above:

Muscarella, M. et al. (2009) Validation of a confirmatory analytical method for the determination of aflatoxins B1, B2, G1 and G2 in foods and feed materials by HPLC with on-line photochemical derivatization and fluorescence detection. Food Additives and Contaminants, Vol. 26, No. 10, October 2009, 1402-1410

Here are some important extracts:

“A fast, reliable and automated method for the simultaneous determination of aflatoxins in a variety of foods and animal feed materials, based on HPLC–FLD with post-column photochemical derivatization, has been validated.”

“The accurate and highly sensitive proposed method offers several advantages in terms of simplicity, rapidity and efficiency. In fact, the results of the method validation, performed according to Regulation (EC) No. 882/2004, demonstrate the method conformity with provisions of Regulation (EC) No. 401/2006 and indicate that the procedure can be successfully applied for accurate confirmation analyses.”

“Therefore, the proposed method is well suited to satisfy the demands for accurate and sensitive detection of aflatoxins with minimal sample preparation and cleanup steps.”
